Press Release        08/09/2011

Local Artist Simon Kirk Exhibits in the US

Leigh on Sea based artist Simon Kirk will be exhibiting work in downtown Flagstaff, Arizona throughout the month of October. Jill Divine, the owner of Gallery 113 in Flagstaff, had become familiar with Simon’s work through his Facebook page and offered him the opportunity to show his work. Simon will also be the featured artist during the gallery’s participation in the ‘First Friday Artwalk’, one of Northern Arizona’s premier arts events in which art galleries and businesses open their doors with special art exhibitions, performances and live music.

Simon studied Fine Art at Coventry University and graduated in 1999. He moved to London but high rents and long working hours meant he had little time to pursue his art career. He moved back to his hometown of Leigh on Sea in 2007 and the thriving art community there helped him to build up his artistic reputation. In 2010, he exhibited and sold at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and this year he had a solo show in Jægerspris in Denmark.

To help promote his work, Simon uses social media such as Facebook and Twitter as he believes it offers artists such as him the chance to promote their work domestically and internationally for free.
He says:
”Social media provides the opportunity to show work and receive feedback from the public. It is also ideal for creating professional relationships with people all over the world. The chance to show work in the USA was a result of my promoting my work on the internet.”

Simon Kirk will be exhibiting in Gallery 113, 113 E Birch Street, Flagstaff, AZ 86001 (www.galleryone13.com) from the 1st – 31st October 2011.
