Artistsmeet.org CIC is a critique group for artists based on a monthly gathering based at TAP, CoExist Gallery and artist-run studios, where artists can meet up, sit down, network, explore other artists work, explore collaborative approaches, ask for participation in a project, get others involved, get technical advice about anything because there's always someone who knows; discuss new opportunities, present work, propose ideas, generate interest, promote their own work, engage in others work, ask for advice, give some advice, and have a cup of tea.
artistsmeet aims to...
~ further develop artists' progression in contemporary practices and professional development through a supportive, confidential, informal but critically engaging environment through peer discussion, on a regular basis;
~ engage artists further in contemporary practices through the host organisation, CoExist at TAP, in events locally, and nationally;
... develop more responsive ways of working, enabling artists to become more adaptable, reflexive and responsive to opportunity by:
~ sharing resources within a wider community;
~ promoting collaborative practices to achieve more flexible ways of working;
~ promoting wider engagement through participation and communication;
~ supporting professional development wherever possible, through skillshares, or inviting specialists;
~ generating new opportunities within current developments.

it's free! (and always will be)
Each monthly meeting is a group crit, facilitated by an artistsmeet director, who is also a practicing artist. Each participant can be given time to present their current work, and the discussion is then opened to the group. Participants don't always have artwork with them - contributing to discussion is valued as highly. We have found that a supportive, but critically engaging, informal environment, with a commitment to each artists development, is a value highly regarded within artistsmeet.
We're a responsive organisation and we organise skillshares to meet professional development needs within the group. If we don't have the expertise within the group to create a skillshare, we look further afield, but these skillshares may have a fee attached to them.
We also approach current issues and concerns and these are introduced on a monthly basis, and we value each members input and experiences in these discussions.

forum
Discussions extend beyond monthly meetings either through
attending Private Views at TAP, or on a more informal level within the
wider community. Artistsmeet has a wide geographical area, covering South Essex, UK, and to continue some of these discussions, we have created a forum. It's also a place to follow up links, keep in contact with others, and keep abreast of current developments.
what are we doing now?
We're planning a range of events to increase wider participation and critical engagement - getting more from the visual arts, from our work, from others work; a deeper, more location-based understanding of context and contemporary practices. New opportunities are posted here as requested, but just in case you haven't checked this week, here's the links on the same page...
